BIG SECOND HALF LEADS THUNDER TO WIN OVER HORNETS

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A big second half pushed the Trine University men's soccer team back into the win column with a 3-0 shutout of Kalamazoo. The Thunder are now 8-2-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in the MIAA.

Neither team was able to score in the first half as the Hornets held a 7-to-6 shot advantage with senior goalie Nick Thon (South Haven, Mich./South Haven) making four stops in the half.

It didn't take long for the Thunder to break the scoreless tie as senior Sean Sullivan (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) found junior Andre Hilson (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) just 5:24 into the half. The goal was Hilson's third of the season.

At 75:26 of the period, it was Hilson this time finding fellow junior Curtis Holcom (Converse, Ind./Oak Hill) for the goal to take over the team lead with his fifth goal of the season. Just 1:15 later, senior Foster Webb (Auburn, Ind./Dekalb) also scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Holcom. That would be all the Thunder would need as they outshot the Hornets 13-to-5 in the second half.

Thon earned his eighth shutout of the season while making seven saves on the afternoon.

The win snaps the Thunders two-game losing streak.

Trine will next travel to Albion College on October 11 for a 4:00 p.m. game.
