Box Score OLIVET, Mich. - It was a
big win and sweet revenge for the Trine University men's
soccer team as they defeated Olivet College 4-0 in a game that had
been suspended from the previous night. The Thunder are now 11-4-2
on the season and 7-4-1 in the conference. With the win, the
Thunder move into third place in the conference, one point ahead of
Olivet.
Trine and Olivet began play last night but the
game was stopped twice due to lightening until the game was finally
postponed and rescheduled for this afternoon. Olivet had been
leading 1-0 but the slate was wiped clean for today's
match.
The Thunder put home the first goal in the 31st
minute when senior Foster Webb (Auburn, Ind./Dekalb ) fired a
shot from three yards out and into the near post. Fellow senior
Femi Adediji (Cedar Park, Tex./Vista Ridge) had the assist on the
goal.
Trine would break the game open in the second
half as they would score three goals in a 20 minute span. Adediji
got in on the scoring action first as he buried home senior Sean
Sullivan's (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) shot that rebounded off
the post. Just two minutes later sophomore David Duquette
(Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) received the ball from senior Danny
Coppola (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) and fired off a shot from
eight yards out scoring his second goal of the season.
Junior Jordan Diemer (Byron Center, Mich./Unity
Christian) finished off the Comets when he scored off as corner
kick from freshman Karston Shephard (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield).
Diemer's goal was his first of the season.
Olivet had their chances to score as both teams
tallied 11 shots on the after, but senior goalkeeper Nick Thon once
again played tough. Thon made eight saves on the day while upping
his team record to 11 shutouts on the year.
Trine will finish off their road season as they
travel to Adrian College for a 7:00 p.m. match on October 28.
