Women's Golf Ties 36-Hole Record at Blackthorn

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Trine University women's golf team tied the program's 36-hole record on Tuesday afternoon at Blackthorn Golf Course to finish in fourth place. The Thunder closed with a round of 312 strokes this afternoon to finish the two day event with 627 stokes. Rylee Smith led Trine with a ninth-place finish.
 
The Thunder finished as the top NCAA Division III team with NAIA foes Bethel (Ind.), Grace College, and Taylor University. Trine toppled MIAA competitors Saint Mary's College and Hope College.
 
Smith led the way for Trine with 152 strokes. She closed out the tournament this afternoon with a round of 75 strokes. The junior made three birdies on each day of the tournament including on hole eleven in both days.
 
Freshman Paige Fischer finished in 11th place, just two shots behind Smith. Fischer also posted a round of 75 on day two. She finished her round this afternoon bogey free over the final 11 holes, including a pair of birdies.
 
Cassidy Hawken placed 20th for Trine with a two day total of 161 strokes. Hawken posted a consistent two day total with rounds of 79 and 82 and 23 pars.
 
Mia Loggins and Brooke Anderson each provided a fourth score. Each woman carded an 80, Loggins today and Anderson yesterday. Loggins finished in 26th place with 164 strokes and Anderson was 35th with 167 strokes.
 
The Thunder return to action on October 6  at Zollner Golf Course for the third MIAA Jamboree.
