Women's Golf Claims Kick Off Classic for Third Consecutive Year

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's golf team emerged victorious in its season opening tournament this afternoon at Zollner Golf Course. The Thunder tallied 313 strokes and defeated MIAA rivals Kalamazoo College and Saint Mary's College by 15 strokes. Freshman Paige Fischer made a splash in her college debut, firing a round of 75 and claiming medalist honors.
 
Trine claimed three of the top six spots, Rylee Smith tied for second and Cassidy Hawken tied for fourth. Brooke Anderson tied for 12th to round out Trine's top four finishers.
 
Fischer opened up with a bogey but settled in with six pars and three birdies over the next nine holes to work her way to two under. She closed with three pars over the final five holes to claim the win in her first collegiate tournament.
 
Rylee Smith had a solid day in the opener, carding a 77 and notching 13 pars. Cassidy Hawken opened her day with eight consecutive pars and finished with a round of 79. Anderson found the cup early on three of her first six holes, making birdie on holes four, five, and seven.
 
The Trine "B" team took fifth place and "C" team took eighth.
 
Trine returns to action on Friday at The University of Olivet's Kyle Campbell Memorial Invitational.
