ANGOLA, Ind. – Athletic Director Andy Rang says the Trine University women's wrestling program has a bright future.
"We look forward to recruiting athletes who will help us build a program that can compete at the conference and national level," Rang said. "Women's wrestling continues to grow nationally both in the NCAA and beyond. I have great faith that we are ready to push our program forward."
Trine began its women's wrestling program during the 2020-21 season and has competed in the discipline each year since. Isaac Hawkins is the third coach in the program's history and took the helm last summer.
"This year has seen some amazing steps forward for the sport of women's wrestling and the future looks bright," said Hawkins, "I'm excited to lead our program into that future and can't wait to recruit future Thunder to join us."
In January, the NCAA added women's wrestling as its 91st championship sport, elevating the discipline from "Emerging Sports for Women" status. The first NCAA Women's Wrestling Championship took place at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. More than 1,200 women wrestlers are competing at NCAA schools. A separate championship for the 55 Division III schools that sponsor the sport has been approved to begin at the conclusion of the 2027-28 season.
Any potential student-athletes interested in the program should reach out to Hawkins or fill out the team's interest form.
