ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A delegation from Trine University women's wrestling traveled to the QC D3 National Invitational, posting a 22nd place finish out of 31 teams.
Laylah Hicks led the team with 5.5 team points. She opened the day with a loss to drop to the consolation bracket. From there she won two straight matches, the first a quick pin and the second by forfeit. She bowed out of the tournament in the next round.
Madison Small came up with 3.5 team points in the event. She won her first match by fall before dropping to the consolation bracket with a loss in her second. She took her next contest with a 6-2 decision before coming up just short in a 3-2 decision to exit the tournament.
The final scorer for the Thunder was Erin Scully who claimed 2 points for the team. Scully lost the first match of the day before taking a consolation contest with a tech fall victory. The grappler bowed out of the tournament in the second consolation round.
Trine will return home for a dual match against Albion College on Thursday, February 12. That match will take place alongside the men's wrestling team's dual which is set to begin at 7 p.m.
