Softball Stands Firm in Second

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Trine University softball team continues their streak by holding on to the second spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/GoRout Division III Coaches Poll, this marks the fifth week in a row.

The Thunder retained 240 points in the poll to hold their spot. Undefeated Viriginia Wesleyan University continued their run as the undisputed top team in the country. Linfield University, Saint Mary's (Minn.) University and Texas Lutheran University rounded out the unchanged top five.

Trine opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play by hosting Adrian College. The offense exploded for 43 runs in the two games, with 17 of them coming in the first inning of the second contest. The first game was close through four innings before Tyra Marcum ended the contest early with a grand slam in the sixth inning. The game marked the 700th win in head coach Donnie Danklefsen 's career.

Game two got out of hand fast with the huge first inning for Trine, that included grand slams from both Emma Lee and Macy Rocha. The game ultimately ended 28-4 in favor of the home team. Finishing after five innings of play.

The Thunder are scheduled to travel to face Hope College on Saturday, April 11. Those games are set to start at 1 p.m.
