HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University track and field teams completed the first event of the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this afternoon at Hope College.
Hannah Flores Ness competed in the women's heptathlon and
Hunter Eifert competed in the men's decathlon.
Flores Ness placed fourth with 3,964 points in a school record effort and earned five points for the Thunder in the team standings. Eifert placed ninth with a total of 5,262 points, just two points shy of eighth place and scoring position for the team title.
Flores Ness toppled the previous school record by over 800 points. She scored 736 points in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.82 seconds. In high jump, she topped a second program record by clearing 1.61 meters/5' 3.25" and now owns both the indoor and outdoor records. The leap scored 747 points. In shot put she scored 419 points and in the 200 she finished in 27.35 seconds for 683 points. Her day one total of 2,585 points ranked second.
She led off day two with a leap of 4.71 meters/15' 5.5" in the long jump for 482 points, in the javelin throw she scored 298 points and she finished the two day competition with a personal best of 2:37.78 in the 800-meter run.
Eifert placed ninth over two day competition and ranks third in program history with 5,262 points. Eifert tallied five personal bests all coming on day two his bests came in the 110-meter hurdles (17.12), discus throw (26.77m/87' 10"), pole vault (2.95m/9' 8"), javelin throw (43.65m/143' 2") and the 1500-meter run (5:00.39).
The Thunder will head to Hillsdale College on Saturday for a final tune up before the MIAA Championships next Thursday and Friday.
