Thunder Celebrate Seniors with Victory

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team secured their fourth win of the season in their final home contest. They defeated Adrian College 219.43 to 125.30.

The Thunder opened the day with a strong showing in Compulsory Event, winning 32.35 to 23.05. Their best score came in the pyramid heat with a 9.4 but their performance in the acro heat earned them an 8.45 which is just outside of a top ten program mark. They also turned in an 8.95 in the toss and a season best 5.55 in the tumbling.

After a promising start, a fall during the second heat of the Acro Event gave Trine its only event loss of the day. The score was 22.75 to 20.35. Trine opened with a 9.05 in the first heat, just outside a top ten program mark and the second best showing of the season. They responded to the fall in synchronized with a solid 8.5 in the third heat.

The team regrouped and came back to the mats with a vengeance, winning the Pyramid Event 28.45 to 25.10. That total is tied for eighth best in program history. The first heat was historically tied for third at 9.5. Another 9.5 in the second heat was tied for eighth in the program history. They finished with a solid 9.45 in the third heat, securing season highs in each heat and in the event.

The Toss Event ended in another victory for the team by the score of 24.70 to 22.60. The team's best score came in the first heat with an 8.80. They scored 7.95 in each of the other heats.

The Thunder built on their lead, winning the Tumbling Event 41.70 to 31.80. Trine's best scores came in the aerial pass with a season high of 8.40 and in the open pass with an 8.25. They also turned in a season high quad pass with a 7.05.

Trine finished the day with a season best 71.88 score in the team event. That cemented the final score of 219.43 to 125.30, and created a happy backdrop for the senior day festivities that followed the meet.

Trine finishes the day 4-2. They will finish the regular season with a trip to Calvin University on Monday, March 30. That meet is scheduled for 6 p.m.
