Estep Shatters 27-Year-Old Record, Leads Men's Track and Field at Mrs. G Invite

ANGOLA, Ind. – Braden Estep toppled 27-year-old school record in the 60-meter dash to highlight a strong showing from the Trine University men's track and field team at the annual Mrs. G Invitational. Team scores were not kept, MIAA foes Adrian College, Albion College, Calvin University, and Hope College competed at the meet as well as Manchester University, Ohio Northern University, Siena Heights University and Purdue Fort Wayne.
 
Estep crossed the line the 60-meter dash in 6.87 seconds besting Ben Robertoy's record of 6.88, set back in 1999. Estep added a second place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.16 seconds.
 
Kyle Redd moved to seventh in program history in the 200 meters with a time of 22.49 seconds.
 
Eli Shoup and Brady Millington raced to fourth and fifth place finishes in the 800-meter run finishing in 2:02.59 and 2:02.74.
 
Drew Sillaway moved up to eighth in program history in the mile run, finishing in 4:23.54. He added a win in the 3000-meter run in 9:00.89. Ryan Hoopingarner and Gavin Hinkley joined him in the top five, finishing fourth and fifth.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Cole Figg, Hunter Eifert, Caden Large, and Redd were third with a time of 3:29.69.
 
The Thunder were the lone entry in the Distance Medley Relay. The team of Lucas Tutrow, Ryan DeHaan, Sam Sering, and Hinkley beat the team of Eli Shoup, Drew Merritt, Matt Rankin and Seth Bakker.
 
Preston Nofziger was fourth in the pole vault with a new #9 program mark. He cleared 4.43 meters/14' 6.25".
 
Tyler Barnes was fifth in the long jump, leaping 6.30 meters/20' 8".
 
Colton Zableckis and Trace Stookey were second and fifth in the shotput with tosses of 14.88 meters/48' 10" and 13.46m/44' 2".
 
Zableckis then teamed up with Myles Jackson for a 3-4 finish in the weight throw with tosses of 15.87m/52' 1" and 15.64m/51' 3.75".
 
Trine will head to Grand Valley State next week for two days of competition on Friday and Saturday.
