ALMA, Mich. – The Trine University men's and women's track and field teams competed in the inaugural Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Combined Events Championships over the past two days at Alma College. Each team earned three points toward their team total at next week's MIAA Track and Field Championships.
Hunter Eifert placed sixth and earned three points for the men's team score in the heptathlon, while
Hannah Flores Ness,
Sophia Peter, and
Adrianne Jackson competed in the pentathlon. Flores Ness and Jackson placed seventh and eighth to score three team points for the Thunder.
Eifert tallied 4,036 points in the event, the third best mark in program history. He scored 703 points in the 60-meter dash with a 7.53 second effort. A leap of 5.55 meters/18' 2.5" added 492 points and a toss of 10.61m/34' 9.75" added 522. He finished day one in the high jump where he cleared 1.81m/5' 11.25" for 636 points.
Eifert opened day two in the 60-meter hurdles with 671 points, crossing in 9.35 seconds. In the pole vault, he cleared 2.85m/9' 4.25" for 321 points. In the final event of the grueling two-day competition, he scored 691 points in the 1000-meter run, finishing in 2:57.29.
Flores Ness scored 2,560 points in the pentathlon. She scored 785 points in the 60-meter hurdles, then added 610 in the high jump, clearing 1.49m/4' 10.5". She tossed 7.03m/23' .75" in the shot put for 337 points and scored 461 points in the long jump with a leap of 15' 2.25", finally in the 800-meter run she finished in 2:59.84 for 367 points.
Jackson scored 2,500 points, better her #2 all-time mark that sits behind Flores Ness' record from earlier this season. Jackson scored 677 points in the first event, crossing in 10.19 seconds. She added 389 points in the high jump and 400 in the shot put. Her best throw measured 8.01m/26' 3.5". In the long jump she scored 421 points, leaping 4.47m/14' 8". In the 800-meters she finished in 2:36.57, scoring 613 points.
Peter finished ninth, just one spot outside of scoring position. Peter won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.13 seconds, bettering her #2 mark in program history. Peter scored 2,477 points, the third most in program history, she put up a career second-best effort in the long jump with 4.47m/14' 8". She competed in the 800 meters, high jump, and shot put for the first time in her career.
The Thunder head to Hillsdale College on Saturday for their final tune up before next week's MIAA Championships.
