Thunder Open Season with Victory Over Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team opened the season with a win over their hosts from Concordia University Wisconsin. The final score of the event was 211.955 to 202.530.

The Thunder opened the day by outscoring the Falcons during the Compulsory Event. Their high scores came in the pyramid heat with a 9.2 and the toss with an 8.3. However, it was the acro and the tumbling heats where the team gained against their hosts. They outscored Concordia Wisconsin by three points in those to heats. The final score of the event was 29.30 to 26.95.

The home side responded during the Acro Event, taking a lead of their own with a 23.50 to 20.75 victory. Trine's best score came in the second heat where they posted a 7.85.

The Thunder secured a 77.90 to 75.10 lead for halftime with a 27.85 to 24.65 victory in the Pyramid Event. The highlight of the scores was in the second heat where the team posted a 9.50 which is tied for eighth best in program history. They also had a 9.45 in the third heat and an 8.90 in the first.

Trine added one more point to their lead in the Toss Event with a 23.90 to 22.90 victory. Their best score came in the third heat with an 8.45 while they posted a 7.75 in the first and a 7.70 in the second.

They continued to separate themselves during the Tumbling Event, winning 40.075 to 37.550. Their best scores came in the open pass with an 8.375 and the 6 element pass with a 7.975. The trio pass score was a 7.50, tied for sixth best in program history.

The Thunder finished off the victory with a four-point win in the Team Event. They posted a score of 70.080 to give the match its final of 211.955 to 202.530.

Trine will continue their season when they travel to Erie, Pa. for a tri-match hosted by Gannon University on Saturday, February 28. That event will also feature Buffalo State University and is set to start at 12 p.m.
