Women's Golf Has Strong Showing in Illinois

NORMAL, Ill. – The Trine University women's golf team had a strong showing this weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic. The Thunder posted a team total of 631 strokes over 36 holes of action at the 5,823-yard par-72 Ironwood Golf Course. Rylee Smith was fantastic posting a two day total of 147 strokes for fourth place individually.
 
Illinois Wesleyan took the team title with 595 strokes, DePauw, Dubuque, Aurora, and Trine rounded out the top five. Trine topped MIAA-foes Saint Mary's, Albion, and Olivet.
 
Smith posted a two day total of 147 strokes with rounds of 73 and 74. Smith had a shaky start on day one with a pair of bogeys on fourteen and fifteen before settling in with eight consecutive pars and birdies on holes seven and nine. Smith started on hole seven on day two. She played the back nine holes two under with birdies on thirteen and fifteen. She added another on hole three. Her score earned her a fourth place finish.
 
Cassidy Hawken was the Thunder's second highest finisher in 30th place with 158 strokes. She rallied up 29 spots on the leaderboard on day two with a 76. She made birdies on four and fifteen for the round.
 
Natalie Kulka placed 47th with 162 strokes. Her day one round included back to back birdies on seventeen and eighteen. Kulka made 10 pars on day two.
 
Grace Thiele rallied 16 spots up the leaderboard on day two with an 81, she finished with 164 strokes. Thiele made birdie on thirteen on day one and closed out her final nine holes with a pair of birdies and seven pars.
