ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's golf team took second place at today's Trine Spring Classic at Zollner Golf Course. Natalie Kulka and Rylee Smith tied for third individually to lead the Thunder.
 
Saint Mary's (Ind.) took the team title with 307 strokes in the 18-hole tournament. The Thunder were second with 318. Calvin University was third with 326, Hope College and Capital University rounded out the top five with 338 and 371 strokes. Siena Heights was sixth with 389.
 
Kulka and Smith fired rounds of 77. Kulka's was a model of consistency, notching 13 pars. She made three consecutive pars three separate times on the day. Smith paired two birdies with 11 pars to reach her score of 77. The birdies came on holes nine and eighteen.
 
Brooke Anderson and Cassidy Hawken recorded Trine's other counting scores with rounds of 81 and 83. Anderson made birdie on hole twelve as part of a six hole stretch where she made par or better. She tallied 10 total pars on the day. Hawken recorded eight pars in her round.
 
The Thunder will now focus their preparation toward the MIAA Spring Finale. The 36-hole tournament is set for Friday April 24th and Saturday April 25th. Trine trails Saint Mary's by one shot in the team standings and Rylee Smith holds a four shot lead in the individual standings. The team champion will earn the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
