OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. – The Trine University women's golf team took second place at the MIAA Spring Finale on Saturday afternoon at The Legacy Golf Course. The Thunder posted a 36-hole team total of 628 strokes, the second fewest in program history. Trine's round of 310 strokes on Friday is the second fewest in an 18-hole round in program history.

Saint Mary's College (Ind.) took the team title by 22 strokes and claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Trine entered the tournament trailing the Belles by one stroke in the conference standings. The automatic bid is awarded to the team with the lowest stroke total across the four fall MIAA Jamborees and the 36-hole Spring Finale.

Rylee Smith claimed conference medalist honors by six strokes over Saint Mary's Melanie Maier. Smith posted a school record round of 69 strokes on Friday to take a commanding lead in the individual standings. Smith earned a pair of Trine firsts, she is the first Trine woman to claim MIAA Individual Medalist and the first Thunder golfer to break 70. Smith also earns First Team All-MIAA status for the second year in a row. She joins Grace Dubec and Amy Worthington as the only two-time first team selections.

Smith opened her record round with a birdie on hole one. She would go bogey free through the first 11 holes, reaching a score of five under before posting a bogey. She made back-to-back birdies on six and seven and ten and eleven. Smith played the front nine to three under and closed the day with three consecutive pars. This afternoon she posted a round of 81 to finish the tournament with a 36-hole total of 150.

This afternoon Kulka carded a 79 with birdie again on five and another on twelve. She made 17 pars on the weekend and finished 12th individually. This is Kulka's first, first team selection; she earned second team status last year.

Grace Thiele's 36-hole total of 160 strokes ranks as the 10th best 36-hole round in program history. Thiele also earned second team All-MIAA recognition for the first time in her career. She shot rounds of 81 and 79 on the weekend. She made birdie on fourteen both days and added another on fifteen on Friday and one on sixteen this afternoon. She finished 17th individually.
