LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The NCAA Division III National Champion Trine University softball team has been ranked first in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Thunder were the unanimous choice for the top spot in the poll, moving up from fifth before the tournament, and finishing with 250 points. National runner-up Virginia Wesleyan University was second with 240 points and Linfield University came in at third with 230 points. The final site field of eight teams all finished in the top eight of the rankings.

Trine swept the Marlins in the championship series with game two coming right down to the wire. Alexis Michon, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after the championship, pitched through an early injury to hold the opposition to just one run on two hits. That lone run came in the first inning with the Thunder trailing until the sixth, when Emma Lee came up with a three-run homer to give the team its final lead.

The Thunder finish the season with a 46-5 record, tying the program record for most wins, but doing it with one less loss than the 2023 team who won the program's first National Championship.
