COLDWATER, Mich. – The Trine University Men's Golf team concluded their season with a fourth place finish at the MIAA Spring Final. Hope claimed the tournament title as well as the MIAA title. Trine shot a two day total of 615 strokes. Freshmen
Jake Bilby and
Jack Besner finished inside the top 10 for the Thunder. Four Trine golfers earned All-MIAA selections. All-MIAA selections were awarded to the top 12 golfers in the MIAA based on average score across the six MIAA golf events between the fall and spring seasons.
Bilby opened his round on Wednesday with two birdies on the first five holes and finished the front nine at level par. His birdies came on the 552-yard par five third and the 396-yard par four fifth. He added another in sixteen, a 416-yard par four. He added seven pars on the back nine to complete a strong showing. Bilby added four more birdies on Thursday on holes nine, ten, thirteen, and fifteen. He finished his round with a 76 and placed sixth overall. Bilby was named to the All-MIAA second team.
Besner was 23
rd after shooting 80 on Wednesday afternoon, he rallied up to seventh on the leaderboard with an even par 72. He made birdie on the 213-yard par three twelfth on Wednesday. On Thursday he added a quartet of birdies, Besner bested the course on three, eight, fourteen, and fifteen. Besner earned All-MIAA first team awards.
Trevor Vietti competed individually, his score did not count toward the Trine team total. On day one he scored birdie on five and fifteen, the latter a 535-yard par five. He made five consecutive pars on holes six through ten. All told, he carded 10 pars on the day to finish with a 75. Vietti knocked in two more birdies on three and eleven on Thursday. He added seven more pars to finish with 79 strokes.
Carter Schnipke finished 16
th with a two day total of 156 strokes. Schnipke closed well on the front nine on Wednesday with six pars and a birdie on the 501-yard par five ninth. He dropped five birdies on Thursday on holes three, seven, nine, eleven, and fifteen. Schnipke earned first team All-MIAA honors. This is Schnipke's second All-MIAA selection.
Garrett James is also placed 16
th and also earned first team All-MIAA recognition. He sunk eight pars on the front nine and five more on the back on day one. He added birdies on thirteen and fifteen on day two for his two day total of 156.
Asher Caldwell finished in 30
th place. He made eagle on the ninth hole and added a birdie on eighteen, a 422-yard par four to highlight his round on day one. He made 12 pars on day two.
This concludes the season for the Thunder.
