CATAWABA, Ohio – The Trine University men's golf team won their fourth tournament of the fall at the 2025 Region V Showcase at Catawaba Country Club on a windy Tuesday afternoon.
Garrett James claimed his fourth medalist honor of the fall with another playoff victory this afternoon. This marks the second consecutive season the Thunder have won the Region V Showcase. Trine concludes their fall season with the tournament and holds a two stroke lead over Calvin in the MIAA standings.
Trine took the team title with 613 strokes over the 36 hole tournament. Otterbein was second with 618 and Calvin claimed third with 627.
James, who is ranked 14
th nationally as an individual, won the individual title by making par on the playoff hole against Josh Nicholl of Mount Aloysius College. He fired a 36 hole total of 151 strokes. He had a day one total of 76 and made a pair of birdies and nine pars. He closed his round on day two with six consecutive pars to preserve his spot atop the leaderboard. He finishes the fall with an average of 73.1 strokes across 10 rounds.
Carter Schnipke took seventh with 155 strokes. He shot rounds of 77 and 78 for the tournament and make 21 pars to go with three birdies.
Asher Caldwell and
Jack Besner tied for 8
th place with 156 strokes, Caldwell shot rounds of 76 and 80 while Besner shot dual 78s.
Nathan Brennan earned his first counting score for the Thunder this afternoon with a 76, rebounding nicely from an 86 on Monday. His total of 162 was good for 25
th place, he moved up 24 spots on the leaderboard this afternoon.
Jake Bilby totaled 169 strokes for the tournament and placed 44
th.
Trine concludes their fall season with a two stroke lead over Calvin in the MIAA Standings. The Thunder will return to the course in March for the spring portion of their season.
