NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced Zion Jackson as the Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year. Jackson is the first male athlete to be named Track Athlete of the Year and third Trine Track and Field athlete to earn a regional athlete of the year award. Jeffery Barnett was named Field Athlete of the Year for the 2017 indoor season and Evie Miller was the 2022 Women's Track Athlete of the Year.

Jackson's school record times of 10.49 and 21.29 seconds in the 100- and 200-meter dashes placed first and fourth in the region. His time of 14.16 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles was also the top time in the region and ranks second in program history. He ran 14.21 seconds in the hurdles in the final round of the NCAA Championships last weekend placed him third and earned his first All-America honor. He became the second Trine athlete to be an All-American in the event. Jackson ran the third leg of 4x100-meter relay that toppled the school record in 40.81 seconds and had the second best time in the region.

The sophomore helped Trine to its fifth consecutive outdoor MIAA Championship, scoring 42.5 points, 28.5 coming on the track. Jackson won the 110-meter hurdles in convincing fashion and ran the third leg of the 4x100-meter relay that also took the win. He added second place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
