Men's Track Selected to Win 12th Consecutive MIAA Title

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the results of their Men's Indoor Track and Field Coaches' Poll. The Trine University Men's Track and Field team is the favorite with 10 points and five first place votes, Calvin University is second with 14 points and two first place votes.
 
Hope College is third in the poll with 15 points and one first place vote; Albion is fourth with 30 and first-year program Kalamazoo is selected fifth with 34 points. Adrian is sixth with 35 points followed by The University of Olivet with 40 and Alma with 42.

Trine will look to defend their streak of five consecutive MIAA Indoor Championships this season and extend their streak to 12 consecutive conference titles overall.
 
The Thunder are led by the sprints group. Senior Braden Estep will lead the group after placing third in the 60-, 100-, and 200-meter dashes last year. He is joined by Corey Washington and Mason Turske as returning sprinters. Washington placed eighth in the 60 last year. Joining the fold are Rushawn James and Evan Walker who play football as well. Caden Large and Cole Figg will also look to contribute as freshman. Josh Slimak will lead the hurdle crew.
 
The distance squad is led by Max Van Huis who established new program records in the 3000- and 5000- meter runs last year while capturing conference titles in the mile and 3000-meter runs indoors. School record holder in the 800-meter run, Tyler Hartleroad returns and looks to improve on his third place finish at the indoor championships. Blake Overmyer and Ryan Hoopingarner will also be key contributors for the distance squad. Freshman Brady Millington is expected to be a contributor as well.
 
The jumps group is a young group led by junior Hunter Eifert, Eifert placed eighth in the high jump at last year's indoor championships. Clayton Griswold and Isaiah Pryor also return in the long jump. The pole vaulters will be led by freshman Preston Nofziger. Other promising freshmen include Trevor Freel, Isaiah Freewalt, and Jackson Sines.
 
 
Colten Zableckis and Trace Stookey lead the throws group. Zableckis placed fourth in the shot put a season ago and Stookey was sixth. Myles Jackson returns after a third-place finish in weight throw. Luke Bruner, Adam Marker, and Harrison Richter are expected to be key pieces as freshmen.
 
The Thunder open their season on Friday at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open.
