Softball Set to Host Super Regional Round of NCAA Tournament

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team will host the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament this Thursday and Friday at SportOne/Parkview Field.
 
Trine advances to the Super Regional round for the fourth year in a row following a sweep of the regional round last week. The Thunder served as the hosts and the #1 seed for the regional, they defeated Pitt-Greensburg, Baldwin Wallace, and Wisconsin-Eau Claire on consecutive days to claim the regional title. Trine will look to advance to their sixth NCAA Division III Softball Championship Finals.
 
Standing in their way is Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the Pointers finished sixth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the WIAC Tournament. The Pointers took down WIAC Tournament Champions Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the regional round last weekend. UWSP is making its first-ever Super Regional appearance. The Pointers have twice advanced to the Championship Finals in 1996 and 1998, claiming the National Championship in the latter. UWSP played in the Angola regional last season but did not play the Thunder. This will be the first match up between Trine and Stevens Point.

Game one is set for Thursday, May 22nd at 2 p.m., game two will be Friday, May 23rd at 1 p.m. and game three will be at 3:30 p.m., if necessary.
