Women's Golf Wins MIAA Spring Final

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Trine University women's golf team concluded their season with a win at the MIAA Spring Final. The Thunder finished 27 shots clear of second place Saint Mary's with a 36 hole score of 640. Rylee Smith and Grace Dubec earned first team MIAA honors and Natalie Kulka was named to the second team. Smith earned medalist honors at the tournament with a two day score of 152.
 
Smith started day one on eighteen and shot 39 on both nines, she birdied the 356-yard par four ninth and then made six consecutive pars on holes twelve through sixteen to solidify her second spot. She followed up a stellar first day with an even more impressive day two, she backed up yesterday's 78 with a 74 this afternoon. She made birdie on one, eight, thirteen, and fifteen. Six pars helped her finish one under on the back nine. She earned her first career All-MIAA award.
 
Kulka led the Trine trio that took spots 7-9. On day one she started on eighteen and rallied up the leaderboard on the back nine after a 41 on the front. She followed a bogey on ten with three consecutive birdies on eleven, twelve, and thirteen. She closed the round with three consecutive pars. She posted an 84 on day two with eight pars. Kulka also claimed her first career All-MIAA award.
 
Kayleigh Agugliaro had the best front nine of the squad on day one, she shot a two-over 37 that included four consecutive pars and was capped with a birdie on the 482-yard par five seventh. She finished eighth overall with a 162 and followed up her day one score of 81 with an 82 today. She notched 10 pars on day two.
 
Grace Dubec rounded out the Thunder's card for the day in twelfth place with an 85. She parred six holes on the day. Dubec had a consistent day, making 10 pars, nine coming consecutively on holes three through eleven. This marks Dubec's third All-MIAA award and is her second consecutive first team award.
 
Saint Mary's earned the team title and the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The bid is awarded to the team with the lowest total team score in the four fall Jamboree's and the two rounds of the Spring Final. The Belles topped the Thunder by just 29 strokes for the bid. This concludes the Thunder's season.
