BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Trine University Acrobatics and Tumbling team won their opening match of the 2025 NCATA Division III Tournament, defeating Adrian College 215.370 to 178.155.
The Thunder opened the afternoon with a victory in the Compulsory Event scoring 32.55 to the Bulldogs' 27.025. The team had their best showings in the acro heat with an 8.6, which is seventh best in program history, and in the tumbling heat with a 6.175, ninth best.
A stumble in the second and third heats gave Adrian their lone event win of the match during the Acro Event, with Trine scoring just 21.85 to the oppositions 22.975. The Team did have the fourth best showing in the 5 element heat with a 9.275.
Trine returned to winning taking the Pyramid Event by the score of 28.6 to 25.675, their score represents the fifth best in program history. Along the way they had a program fourth best first heat showing of a 9.475 and a ninth best showing with a 9.75 in the third heat. The second heat was also strong with a 9.375.
The team took an 83 to 75.675 lead into halftime.
The Thunder had another win in the Toss Event, this time by the score of 25.425 to 20.625, with the showing counting as the tenth best in program history. The team's best score came in the first heat where they had an 8.8. They went over eight in each heat scoring an 8.15 in the second and an 8.475 in the third.
Trine also took the Tumbling Event, this time with a score of 43.175 to 38.375. Their best showing in comparison to their program history was in the 6 element pass where they posted the fourth best showing with a 8.25. They also went over eight in the open pass with an 8.425.
The Thunder easily won the Team Event as well, scoring 63.77 to Adrian's 43.48.
Trine improves to 6-3 overall following the victory. They will return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 11 when they face top-seeded University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. That match is scheduled for 10 a.m.
