Nathan Gilmet blasted three home runs and
Cole Temple and
Dane DuBois each added another in an 8-6 loss to Manchester on Saturday afternoon. Trine nailed three long balls in the second but multiple run innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth by the Spartans dashed the Thunder's chances. Trine is now 6-7 and Manchester is 7-5.
Gilmet's three home runs are now the program record for a single game, breaking a six-way tie at two. This is the second time a Thunder batter has registered multiple home runs in a single game this season.
Joel Walton hit two in the second game against Anderson.
After a scoreless first,
Sam Beckham led off the second with a single, Gilmet was up next and sent one over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead. Temple added another with a solo shot to left center, DuBois was up next and sent his home run over the left field fence as well. Trine led 4-0. Manchester scored two in the fourth with an RBI single and a sac fly. The Spartans added two more in the fifth and three more in the sixth for an 8-4 lead. Gilmet led off the seventh with another blast into left field. In the top of the ninth Gilmet was up one final time, sending one final ball over the fence to complete a three-hit, three-homerun day.
The teams were originally slated for a double header but the second game was canceled due to weather. Trine is off for 10 days before their home opener against Ohio Northern on March 25
th.
