ERIE, Pa. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team split their season opening tri-match hosted by Gannon University. They defeated Buffalo State University the score of 174.455-165.030 while falling to their hosts from Gannon, which scored 257.285 in the match.
The Compulsory Event saw the Thunder finish with a total score of 26.60. Their best heat scores came in the pyramid and toss where they posted an 8.35 and 8.45 respectively. They took a four point lead over Buffalo State after the event.
The Acro Event went poorly for the team, which lost nearly all of its lead against the Bengals after posting a score of 17.60. Their best score came in the third heat with a 6.70.
They stretched the lead back five with a 25.55 to 23.35 win in the Pyramid Event. They broke nine for the first time this season by scoring a 9.05 in the second heat of the event. They also turned in a strong third heat with an 8.75. After the event the score at halftime was 69.75 to 64.40 in favor of the Thunder.
Trine built on their lead further with a 21.6 to 19.7 victory in the Toss Event. Their best score came in the third heat where they posted a 7.80.
Tumbling was more of the same with a 36.375 to 33.450. The teams best score came in the aerial pass where they posted a 7.85. They also broke seven in the open pass with a 7.525.
The Team Event went to Buffalo State, with the Thunder posting a 46.73 to the oppositions 47.48.
Trine finishes their first day with a 1-1 record. They will when they travel to face Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday, February 23. That match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
