SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University Men's Track and Field team set three new school records on Saturday at the Wittenberg Steemer Showcase and the Saginaw Valley State Jet's Pizza Invitational.
Ethan Spahr took down the heptathlon record in Saginaw while
Tyler Hartleroad broke the all-time mark in the 800-meter run and
Max Van Huis shattered the program record in the 3000-meter run.
Spahr tallied 4,942 points in the heptathlon, he set new personal bests in the pole vault (4.40 meters/14' 5.25") and 1000-meter run (2:56.60) along the way. His 4,942 points were also a personal best. Spahr took first place in the event.
Hartleroad shaved .21 seconds off the previous 800-meter record with a time of 1:55.49, he placed sixth in the event.
Van Huis trimmed 21 seconds off the previous program standard in the 3000-meter run. He crossed the line in 8:15.70, good for third place. This is Van Huis' second program record on the season as he continues his impressive sophomore campaign.
Braden Estep continued his impressive season with a fifth place finish in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.02 seconds and a sixth place finish in the 200. His time of 22.35 seconds established a new personal best.
Trennan Lilly took fourth place in the 300-meter dash, clocking 37.20 seconds.
Blake Overmyer was sixth in the 5000-meter run, setting a new personal best of 15:04.89.
Zion Jackson took the win in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Hartleroad,
Philip Nemecek,
Zack Gaynor, and
Sam Sering finished third with a season's best time of 3:29.55.
The Thunder return home on Friday for the annual Mrs. G Invitational.
