EXCELSIOR, Minn. – The Trine University men's hockey team dropped in both national polls after a season opening weekend split. The team is now ranked 11th by both USCHO.com and DIII Hockey News.
The Thunder started the season seventh according to the USCHO.com poll and dropped four spots after their weekend. The team earned 82 points in this week's edition, nine points behind Oswego State University of New York and four ahead of University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Trine was eighth in the DIII Hockey News preseason poll and comes in at 11th in this first regular season edition. They garnered 88 points in the poll, ten behind UW-Superior and seven ahead of Oswego State.
Three other members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) remain ranked. Adrian College had the biggest rises coming in at third in both polls, with Aurora University sitting just behind in fourth. St. Norbert College sits sixth in both polls.
The Thunder split their opening weekend, dropping a 2-1 contest on Friday to SUNY Canton before rebounding with a convincing 5-1 victory over Misericordia University. The team enters NCHA play this weekend, heading to face Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday, November 7. That game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.
