Bilby, Schnipke tie for medalist honors, Men's Golf second at MIAA Jamboree #3

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. – Carter Schnipke and Jake Bilby each fired rounds of 68 (-4) this afternoon at the MIAA Jamboree #3 to lead the Trine men's golf team to a second place finish. Bilby and Schnipke tied for medalist honors. Hope College were the hosts and won the tournament, shooting a team total of 282 strokes (-6).
 
Schnipke nailed seven birdies including five in a row on holes seven through eleven. He finished the front nine with a one under 35, he then notched birdies on three of the first four holes on the back nine and then knocked in five pars in a row to finish the back at a three under 33. He finished the round with 68 strokes, four under par with seven birdies and eight pars.
 
Bilby was equally impressive, the freshman started red hot, knocking in all five of his birdies on the front nine closing out holes seven through nine with birdies. After a 31 on the front, he headed to the back nine where he nailed eight pars in a row. His bid for a bogey-free round ended on the 615-yard par 5 eighteenth. He was able to make his bogey putt to close out his round at 68 strokes and tie his teammate for medalist honors. Overall he made five birdies and a dozen pars.
 
Garrett James continued his impressive season finishing 12th with 73 strokes (+1). James also recorded a dozen pars to go along with three birdies. He knocked in seven of his pars in a row on holes eleven through seventeen.
 
Jack Besner finished as Trine's fourth individual in 27th place with a 77 (+5). Besner battled back from a tough front nine holes with three birdies on the back. He also dropped in eight pars.

Trine's next event is the Ken Venturi Invitational next Tuesday, October 8th at the Zollner Golf Course. Tee time is set for 1 p.m.
