ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University Men's Golf claimed the team title at today's MIAA Jamboree at the Zollner Golf Course. Freshman
Jack Besner and Junior
Garrett James tied Hope's Liam Casey for medalist honors.
Besner carded six birdies and ten pars on the day and James carded the same as both men scored a 67 and led the Thunder men to the title. James got off to a hot start and was bogey free through 13 holes with five birdies enroute to his 67. Besner carded two of his birdies on the front nine before finishing strong on the back with three birdies in his final four holes.
Junior
Carter Schnipke placed sixth as an individual with a one-over 72 that included five birdies. Senior
Colin Crumrine was the Thunder's fourth individual, his 79 rounded out an even par 284 for the hosts. Trine edged out Hope for the team title by one stroke.
On their performances today:
Jack Besner said, "I feel like I can just put the ball where I want to right now, everything feels very smooth and natural." "I don't feel like I'm trying to do anything special, just trying to make the most of every shot."
James added "Well today was my best round ever so I'm very excited about that, it just felt easy today."
The Thunder return to the course Saturday and Sunday September 14
th and 15
th for the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate hosted by Oakland University at the Katke-Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Michigan.
