BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team worked their way past yesterday's leaders to win the 2024 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament hosted by The University of Olivet at the Bedford Valley Golf Course.
The Thunder entered the day tied for second three strokes behind Washington & Jefferson College. They out shot the presidents by five strokes on day two to take the top spot with a two-day score of 603 strokes, 27 over par.
Garrett James was the top performer for the team, finishing four over for the tournament, which was enough to finish fourth as an individual. He was rock steady today recording 12 pars and two birdies on the way to a second-straight 74 stroke score.
Carter Schnipke finished fifth as an individual, just one stroke back, after shooting 77 in the second round.
Jack Besner rounded out the top three with a seventh-place finish on the back of a 76 stroke performance today.
Colin Crumrine rounded out the scorecard by posting a 77 as well.
Nick Coccaro competed as an individual and finished the weekend tied for fifth at five over par.
The Thunder will next take to the links when they travel to the Cascades Clash on Wednesday, September 4. The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Cascades Golf Course in Jackson, Mich.
