BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Trine University men's golf team finished day one of the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament in a tie for second as a team with a score of 299 strokes.
Washington & Jefferson College leads the event with a score of 296 strokes while Westminster (Pa.) College was tied with the Thunder for second, also posting 299 strokes.
Carter Schnipke led the way for the team with an even par round of 72, good enough to sit in third as an individual. After three bogies in the first eight holes, Schnipke settled in and finished his round with three birdies and seven pars.
Garrett James finished sixth as an individual with 74 strokes, he finished with a pair of birdies in the round.
Jack Besner finished seventh overall with 75 strokes, including three birdies, tied for most on the team for the day.
Colin Crumrine rounded out the scoring for the Thunder with 78 strokes.
Nick Coccaro competed as an individual and tied for seventh with 75 strokes of his own.
The Lou Collins concludes tomorrow, Saturday, August 31 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
