Men's Tennis Downs Comets

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team earned a lopsided victory in their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season, defeating The University of Olivet by the score of 9-0.

The closest match of the day came in the top doubles match where Cole Goodman and Drew Dixon came up with an 8-3 win. The other two doubles matches ended in sweeps for the Thunder with Andrew Spirrison and Elijah Schilthuis winning as the No. 2 pair and Caleb Morris and Nicholas Jen winning as the No. 3 pair.

Three of the singles matches would also go to Trine with sweeps including Spirrison at No. 2, Morris at No. 4 and Dixon at No. 5. Schilthuis in the No. 3 match and Jen in the No. 6 match each surrendered just one point on their way to wins. Goodman won the No. 1 match with scores of 6-0, 6-2, allowing two whole points to go to the Comets.

Trine improves to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in MIAA play following the victory. They will continue MIAA competition when they next take the courts, hosting Hope College on Tuesday, March 26. The dual is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
