FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team continued their season with two more wins in a pair of duals hosted by Franklin University. The Thunder won both duals 7-0.
Trine opened their day with two of three doubles matches against the Grizzlies. Asher Monson and Emmett Wirth won the No. 2 match while Caleb McIntyre and Lucas Shaw won in the third match. Both had final scores of 6-2.
The team then swept the singles matches, but with two needing super tiebreakers. Monson in the No. 4 match ultimately won 7-5, 2-6, 13-11 and Wirth took the No. 5 match 5-7, 7-5, 10-7.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Drew Hackney had the most convincing victory in the No. 1 match, winning 6-2, 6-2. Alex Flores won the No. 6 match 6-3, 6-3. Landon Bassett won at No. 2 with scores of 6-4, 6-3 and Brodie Hershberger rounded out the slate with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the third match.
Trine turned in a true sweep against Webster University. Bassett and Hackney teamed up in the No. 1 doubles match and were joined by the No. 2 team in both winning 6-1. McIntyre and Shaw won the third doubles match 6-0.
Wirth had the quickest singles win defeating his opponent in the No. 5 match 6-0,6-0. Hackney in the top match, Hershberger at three and Monson in the fourth each needed just one more game to win their matches. Flores took the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-2 and Bassett rounded out the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the second match.
Trine finishes the day 3-0. They are next set to compete when they travel to face Taylor (Ind.) University on Tuesday, September 15. That dual is set to start at 4 p.m.
