SAGINAW, Mich. – The Trine University Men's Track and Field team had a record setting weekend in Michigan.
Max Van Huis shattered the all-time mark in the 5,000-meter run in Grand Valley, while
Zion Jackson led the squad in Saginaw. The meet was not team scored.

Van Huis took down a four year old 5k record on Friday afternoon at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open. In the third heat of the event he placed fourth on his way to establishing the new all-time mark at 14:38.72.

In Saginaw, at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Open, Jackson places fourth in the 60-meter hurdle final, twelfth in the 200-meter dash, and eighth in the long jump. He posted a time of 8.30 seconds in the preliminary rounds of the hurdle race and advanced to the final. In the finals he improved his time to 8.25 seconds to claim his fourth place spot. He then went to the long jump pit and on his first jump, leaped out to 6.40 meters/21', he then bettered that effort on his next jump to 6.51m/21'4.25" to secure his position. Finally, in the 200-meter dash he narrowly beat out teammate
Braden Estep (13
th/22.57 seconds) for 12
th place finishing in 22.53 seconds.

Max Harris joined Estep in the 60-meter dash as the duo finished 18
th and 19
th in 7.04 and 7.05 seconds.       Â
Matt Schaefer placed 9
th in the pole vault clearing 3.98m/13'0.75" and in the weight throw
Dillon Dennison led the throws group with a 14
th place finish behind a toss of 14.91m/48'11".

The heptathlon wrapped up on Saturday with
Ethan Spahr and
Morgan Johnson placing 4
th and 8
th respectively. Spahr scored 4,641 points and Johnson totaled 4,434.

Trine will take a little over a month off before hosting the Sean Brady Invitational on January 18
th.
