EXCELSIOR, Minn. – The Trine University men's hockey team jumped five spots in the most recent USCHO.com Division III coaches poll, they sit in ninth, breaking into the top-ten for the first time this season.
The Thunder received votes totaling 105 points this week, 40 more than last week. Trinity College sits a spot ahead of the team with 153 points, while University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is just behind with 77. Three other members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) remain ranked. St. Norbert College headlines the group in second with Aurora University sitting in fifth and Adrian College in seventh.
This past weekend Trine picked up five points toward the NCHA standings at the University of Dubuque. On Friday the team completed a two-goal comeback during the third period, forcing overtime and ultimately taking the second point for the game with a shootout victory. On Saturday the team made the Spartans pay for three penalties, winning 3-1 with all three goals coming on the power play.
The Thunder return home this upcoming weekend, hosting the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a pair of games. The first is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 22.
