Thunder Sweep Bengals

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's hockey team finished off the sweep of visiting Buffalo State University with a 3-1 victory. Three different members of the team scored in the contest to secure the win.

The Thunder scored first in the last minute of the first period. After causing a turnover on the defensive end of the ice, Max Marquette was able to flip the puck to the neutral zone where Drew Jeffers beginning his move down the ice. He weaved through the defense ended in the near faceoff dot before making a nifty pass back to Keiton Klein at the top of the same circle. Klein found the back of the net with his shot.

Just a bit more than 20 minutes later, the team took advantage of a power play opportunity to take a 2-0 lead for the second intermission. Alexander Babich won the first faceoff of the power play back to Sam Antenucci at the point. The senior skated near the blueline before moving forward and hitting paydirt with his shot from the top of the near faceoff circle.

In the 11th minute of the third period the Thunder made the score 3-0. Once again following up a faceoff win in the offensive zone, Luke deVries fired a shot from the high slot. The Bengals' goalie made the save with the rebound going wide to the far boards, almost directly to the stick of Josh Wright. The senior made a quick pass through the slot to the near faceoff circle with Douglas Andersson timing his windup to fire the shot as the puck arrived. He did it perfectly with the slapshot finding the back of the net.

Buffalo State broke up the shutout a few minutes later, the lone mark against Kyle Kozma in the contest. Kozma finished the game with 12 saves and the win.

Trine finishes the day with a 7-3-2 overall record. They will return to action when they travel to face Saint John's (Minn.) University on Friday, January 2. That game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT.
