ALBION, Mich. – Madison Small led the way for the Trine University women's wrestling team at the 2024 Albion College Women's Open, winning here weight class.

Small competed at 138 for the day and finished the day with a perfect 5-0 record on her way to a championship. She won her opening match with a tech fall score of 10-0, before taking the next four by decision. Her second-round match ended 4-2 in her favor to send her to the quarterfinals. There she won 5-0 and then took the semifinal match 8-6. The championship match ended 6-2 in favor of Small.

Hailey Budney was the other member of the team to secure wins in the tournament. Competing at 145 she won her first match with an 11-4 decision before dropping to the consolation bracket with a loss. She then pinned her opponent during her next match before dropping out of the event with another loss.

The Thunder will next take the mats when they face Rochester Christian University in a dual match. That event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4.
