Hornets Sting Thunder in MIAA Finale

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team finishes the conference season with a loss to Kalamazoo College by the score of 6-3. The Thunder finish the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) fourth in the standings.

The Hornets took two of the doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead. The lone win for Trine was the No. 3 team of freshmen Nicholas Jen and Elijah Schilthuis who won their match 8-6.

The Thunder then put up some strong efforts in the singles portion of the day but ultimately came up short in all but two. Freshman Andrew Spirrison took the No. 2 match to three sets before falling with scores 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 and senior Aaron Streit made the first set of the No. 4 match close but fell 7-5, 6-1.

The two wins came at the bottom of the lineup. Senior Drew Dixon won the No. 5 match 6-0, 6-2 to get the second point for the team. Sophomore Caleb Morris then got the team's final win in the No. 6 match defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-2.

The Thunder fall to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in MIAA play following the loss. They will finish off the regular season when they travel to face Wabash College on Friday, April 21. That match is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
