Thunder Battle with Knights

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's tennis team battled despite a lopsided final score, falling 8-1 to visiting Calvin University.

The Knights took all three of the doubles matches, but it wasn't easy. The team of freshman Andrew Spirrison and senior Aaron Streit took the No. 1 match to a tiebreaker before falling by the score of 8-7 (7-4). In the No. 2 match, sophomore Cole Goodman and senior Drew Dixon also played a tight match with a final score of 8-6 in favor of the visitors.

Goodman also battled in the No. 1 singles match. After falling in the first set, he forced a tiebreaker in the second before dropping the match with scores of 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). Spirrison picked up the team's lone point of the day in the No. 2 match where he won 6-3, 6-4. Dixon then made the final push for the team in the No. 5 match, there he won the second set to force a third where he would lose with scores of 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

Trine falls to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play following the loss. They will continue their season when they travel to face Adrian College on Tuesday, April 18. That match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
