Thunder Battle Hornets in MIAA Opener

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team battled throughout the dual against Kalamazoo College, but would ultimately fall just short with a score of 6-3.

Despite strong play in all three matches, the Thunder came out of the doubles portion of the contest trailing Hornets 2-1. The win came in the No. 3 match where senior Jaxon Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and freshman Caleb Morris (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South Vigo) won 8-2 over their opponents.

The team would continue to battle in the singles portion of the day. In the No. 1 match freshman Cole Goodman (Eagle, Mich. / Grand Ledge) forced a third set but would fall 3-6, 6-2, 3-6. Then in the No. 2 match junior Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) would play a great first set before dropping the match 5-7, 1-6. 

Trine would pick up a pair of wins to finish off the match with the 6-3 score. In the No. 5 match sophomore Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) would win in straight games, 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 6 match Morris would win 6-2, 6-0 to finish the day undefeated.

The Thunder fall to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) competition following the loss. They will return to the courts on Saturday, April 2 when they host Adrian College for another MIAA contest. The dual is set to start at 11 a.m.
