SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. -- Junior Amira Faulkner (Bellbrook, Ohio / Bellbrook) was individual champion as the Trine University women's triathlon finished third at the 2021 Women's Collegiate Triathlon East Regional Qualifier, held this past Saturday, Oct. 16.

The Thunder finished in a tie with North Central College for second based on their top three performers but lost the tiebreaker on the basis of their fourth student-athlete finishing just behind North Central's. Millikin University came away with the victory just four points ahead of Trine.

Faulkner finished in first by a full minute over the second-place finisher with a time of 1:07:55. Two more Thunder rounded out the scoring group by finishing in the top-ten. Junior Alexandria Smith (Temperance, Mich. / Bedford) came in eighth with a time of 1:13:31 and senior Kyra Warren (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) came in just behind her with a time of 1:13:45

The final three Thunder came in in a group just inside of the top-25. Freshman Kathryn Berlew (Fremont, Ind. / Fremont) finished in in 20th with a time of 1:18:54 with Samantha Weaver (Stevensville, Mich. / Lakeshore) coming in just behind at 1:19:02. Sophomore Rebecca Schaffner (Adrian, Mich. / Adrian) finished off in 23rd with a time of 1:20:54.
