Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles to Defeat Adrian

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University men's tennis team dropped just one doubles match as they defeated visiting Adrian College 8-1.

The Thunder took two of the three doubles matches during the dual. Sophomores Drew Dixon (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) and Eric Gaby (Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield) came up with an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 match, senior Isaac Everitt (Scottsburg, Ind. / Scottsburg) and sophomore Alex Mullet (Westfield, Ind. / Westfield) came away with an 8-1 win.

Trine would then sweep the singles portion of the contest to come away with the 8-1 dual win. The top two singles matches were highly contested affairs, but Everitt and sophomore Aaron Streit (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) were up for the task. Everitt won with scores of 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 while Streit came away with a 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 win.

The rest of the matches came in a less exciting fashion for the Thunder. Sophomore Mitch Rose (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) came up with a 6-1, 7-6(7-3) win in the No. 3 match. Freshman Ryan Smith (Peru, Ind. / Peru) took the No. 4 match with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Dixon went undefeated in the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the no. 5 match and Mullet joined him with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 6 match.

Trine improves to 3-3 following the victory. They will travel to face Bethel (Ind.) University in their next match scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
