ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine softball team took both games of today's doubleheader against Kalamazoo College.

The opener of this doubleheader against Kalamazoo ended with a win for the Thunder with a final score of 6-4. Trine won the second game 14-0. Trine is now 5-1 in the MIAA and 17-8 overall. Kalmazoo is 2-2 in the conference and 6-15 overall.

Game One: Trine 6, Kalamazoo 4

Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif. / Lakewood) pitched in the opener the first four innings, striking out seven batters and maintaining the lead with a score of 2-1. In the fifth inning we saw pitches from Kate Saupe (Farwell, Mich. / Farwell), and Mollie Lovasko (Whiting, Ind. / Whiting) took over in the sixth inning to finish out the game. Lovasko finished the game on the mound, making her record now 3-1.

Trine's catcher Rachell Noble (Indianapolis, Ind. / Decatur Central) threw out three Hornet base runners, two at second base and one at third.

The Thunder had big bats today with two home runs, one each from Noble and Kaylee Fox (Vermilion, Ohio / Edison). Kendra Marshall (Leesburg, Ind. / Warsaw), Emily White (Fortville, Ind. / Mount Vernon), and Rachel Zink (Gahann, Ohio / Gahanna Lincoln) each added an RBI for Trine.

Alison Lang (Rome City, Ind. / East Noble), Marshall, Noble, and White achieved one single apiece, and Lainey McCue (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) added a double. White also had a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, which would score what would become the last run of the game to get the win.

For the Kalamazoo Hornets, Erin DuRoss added an RBI and Dana Page had two RBIs. Andrea MacMichael, Hannah Pipkin, and Page hit one single each, and Isabella Kirck, Nori Seita, and DuRoss added two singles each. Page also added a triple, bringing in two runners in what would be the last two points scored by the Hornets.

DuRoss of Kalamazoo pitched four strikeouts but took the loss in the opener, making her 2-7.

Game Two: Trine 14, Kalamazoo 0 (5)

Bre Cooper (Beech Grove, Ind. / Beech Grove) pitched a shutout for Trine, making her 2-0. Cooper struck out two Hornet batters throughout the five-inning game for her first ever shutout.

Victoria Najacht and Nori Sieta pitched for the Hornets, with Najacht taking the loss, giving her a record of 3-6.

Kalamazoo had four hits to Trine's twelve. Erica Robles (Long Beach, Calif. / Lakewood), Kaitlyn Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn. / Wilson Central), Marshall, Fox, Zink, and Emily White all logged one RBI each, with Lainey McCue contributing two RBIs for the Thunder.

Trine also played well on the defensive end, with McCue and Fox each turning double plays in the infield.

Trine's Fox hit another home run in the second game, making that her third straight game with a home run. Fox had 4 RBIs in game two.

Clark also achieved her two hundredth career hit today, and is the second player in school history to achieve that on the softball field.

Trine softball will return to action Wednesday, Apr. 13 at Calvin. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Thunder had previously been scheduled to play North Central tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., but that game has been cancelled.
