Thunder Edged by Pilots in Close Match

MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- The Trine men's tennis team was edged by NAIA-foe Bethel, 5-4 in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.

Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) and Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) led Thunder performers with a victory in the No. 1 doubles court. Each player also earned a win in singles play. Quinn and Flynn put away their opponents by an 8-4 final for the doubles victory. They are now 2-0 since moving up to the top pairing.

Quinn added a win by 6-2, 6-0 scores at No. 3 singles, while Flynn won by 6-1. 6-2 scores in the No. 4 court. Each player picked up their fourth victory of the season and their second wins in a row.

Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) remained unbeaten this season in earning Trine's final singles victory. Couch won by scores of 6-3, 6-1 to improve to 3-0 on the season. The freshman won both of his matches against Bethel this season.

Trine fell to 4-3 overall. Bethel improved to 3-11 on the season.

The Thunder return to action Friday, Apr. 1 with a home match against Spring Arbor. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
