ANGOLA, Ind. - It was a
tough matchup for the Trine University men's tennis team as
they fell regionally ranked Kalamazoo College 9-0. The Thunder
battled at every match and played some very good tennis, but were
just unable to secure any victories against the number seven team
in the region. The Thunder fall to 11-5 on the season and 2-2 in
the MIAA.
Trine ran into a difficult opponent as they
dropped every match to the Hornets. Junior Dan Desper
(Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and sophomore Joe Dunbar
(Carmel, Ind./Blessed Theodore Guerin) lost in the closest match of
the day by a score of 8-6 at first doubles. Sophomore
Nick Ihrie (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and junior David
Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) fell at second doubles 8-1
and junior Trevor Derby (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and
freshman Zach Richardson (Muncie, Ind./Delta) were beat 8-0.
The Thunder fought at every singles position but
the results were not in their favor. Dunbar battled back at first
singles but fell short as he lost 6-2, 6-4. Desper got off to a
quick start but was unable to defeat his second singles opponent as
he fell 6-4, 6-2. Murray dropped his third singles march 6-2, 6-0
and freshman Joey Clark (Sturgis, MI/Sturgis) dropped his fourth
singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Ihrie fought back at fifth
singles but lost the match 6-2, 6-3. Richardson fell in the finals
singles match, the sixth pairing, 6-2, 6-0.
