BRIGHTON, Mich. – Senior RJ West II has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Football Offensive Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

This is the first time this season that the conference has announced Athlete of the Week honors. It is the first time since coming to Trine that West has been recognized by the MIAA.

The Florence, Ky. native was the catalyst for the offensive attack as the Thunder won their first game of the season last week. He finished with 420 passing yards while going 26-for-38. That total is the fifth most in a single game for the program. He had five touchdowns through air, tied for second in program history, and another on the ground. He was also second on team with 37 yards rushing.

Trine defeated visiting University of Chicago 48-34 in the first ever meeting between the two teams. This week they will face Illinois Wesleyan University on the road, another first meeting for Thunder football. That game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, September 12.
