LEXINGTON –
Jack Besner fired a 54-hole total of 214 strokes to demolish the Trine University men's golf team's 54-hole record at the Transylvania Fall Invitational this weekend. The Thunder finished the tournament in 10
th place amongst a field of nationally ranked opponents.
Besner finished tied for 14
th place overall and finished two shots under par. Day one was a model of consistency for the junior, he nailed 13 pars and two birdies. His second round included six birdies and Besner finished the round two under. He added four more birdies this afternoon. Trine's 54 hole record had stood for over 11 years before today, Cody Knapp held the record previously with 219 strokes at the 2015 MIAA Spring AQ.
Myles Secor was Trine's second best finisher with 220 strokes, the sophomore moves into a tie for third place on Trine's 54-hole top-10 list. Secor notched four birdies this afternoon. His first round included 14 pars and a pair of birdies.
Lance Decker carded a three day total of 225 strokes, three of those came this afternoon on the 481-yard par five fifth where the sophomore made eagle. He finished his day one under.
Nathan Brennan and
Jake Bilby rounded out Trine's top five with rounds of 224 and 223 strokes.
Trine returns to action next Sunday and Monday at the Toftrees Invitational, hosted by Penn State-Altoona.
