TECUMSEH, Mich. – Another impressive day from the Trine University men's golf team has doubled the Thunder's lead over the rest of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
The Thunder won MIAA Jamboree #2 this afternoon at Tecumseh Golf Club by two strokes over Calvin University, Kalamazoo College, and Albion College. Trine's lead over the Knights is now four strokes in the MIAA Standings.
Jack Besner and
Lance Decker led the Thunder with third place finishes after rounds of even par. Besner shook off a tough start to the day with birdies on holes three and five to erase a pair of bogeys to start the round. He made birdie on holes fourteen and sixteen to complete his round with a 72. Decker's start was much the opposite, the sophomore made birdie on each of his first two holes and on four of his first six before finishing with a 72.
Jake Bilby tied for seventh place with a round of 73, Bilby made 11 pars on the day and made three birdies including on the longest and shortest hole of the course. Hole seven measured 598 yards and hole fifteen, a modest 158.
Myles Secor continued his breakout campaign with a round of 74 to provide Trine's fourth counting score. He birdied three of the four par fives and added another on the par four fifth.
Trine heads to the famed Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio on Monday for the 54 hole John Carroll University Blue Streak Invitational. The team will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
