ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's soccer team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play in style on Wednesday evening with a 4-0 win over Alma College.
Erin Scully scored a pair of goals for Trine (4-3-3, 1-0 MIAA). Trine hands Alma its first loss of the season, the Scots are now 8-1-1 (0-1 MIAA).
Trine dominated not only the possession, but also shots and shots on goal. The Thunder outshot their guests 22-5 and 11-3 on goal.
Johannah Houtkooper recorded her second shutout of the season with a pair of saves.
Trine quickly established their offensive attack in the early portion of the game.
Lilly White fired a pair of shots and
Maggie McDowell added another. Trine's first goal came from
Kamryn Bowman, McDowell worked the ball to the top of the goal box and to the middle of the field to
Julia Benham. Benham made a quick pass into the near side of the box that found Bowman who fired a shot to the far side of the goal and into the net.
The score held until the second half when Trine added three more goals.
Maggie McDowell added the next goal unassisted.
Erin Scully provided the final two goals with a pair of impressive goals. The first goal went to the top right corner of the goal after Scully beat a defender to the middle of goal box. The next goal was almost identical,
Elly McClelland made a pass to the space in the open portion of the goal box, Scully connected on the goal with a left footed strike to the top left corner.
The Thunder continue MIAA play on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matchup against Kalamazoo College on Shive Field.
