ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's golf team picked up where they left off last Tuesday with another win at Zollner Golf Course. Today's win at MIAA Jamboree #1 puts Trine atop the MIAA standings.
Lance Decker and
Myles Secor led the way for Trine with third place finishes.
Trine's round of 280 strokes topped the field and gives the Thunder a two-stroke lead over Calvin University. Adrian College took third with Albion College and Hope College rounding out the top five. Calvin's Ethan Tiller took home medalist honors.
Decker and Secor both fired rounds of 69 (-2). Decker accomplished his score with an exceptional start, going bogey free over the first 11 holes with four birdies. Secor battled back from a couple of early bogeys with six birdies over seven holes.
Jack Besner and
Nathan Brennan tied for ninth place with rounds of even par to provide Trine's top four scores. Besner made four birdies and Brennan five to accomplish their rounds of 71.
"Today was a great start for our guys, we started off well and carried our momentum from last week" said Head Coach
Mitch Lowney of his team. "To take a lead after the first jamboree is huge, but it's a long season and our guys will have to say focused over the rest of the fall to maintain our lead, overall, I'm pleased about how today went. Anytime we can be under par is a good day."
Trine heads to Tecumseh Golf Club on Saturday for the second MIAA Jamboree, tee time is set for 1 p.m.
